Travelgate MP pleads guilty
The last of the MPs charged with abusing parliamentary travel warrants, former African National Congress chief whip Nyami Booi, on Monday pleaded guilty to theft.
Booi was fined R50 000, or five years in jail, and given until January 2014 to pay the money in monthly instalments of R1 000.

In a reply to a Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentary question, the Minister of Communications has revealed that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has spent R22-million on commissioning programmes that it does not intend to broadcast. The R22-million comprises the actual contract amount paid out by the SABC. This is yet another example of the poor financial management that has undermined the embattled public broadcaster specifically, and is indicative of the condition of state-owned enterprises in general.
